Kamal Kumar Meenakar – recognised in 2014 as National treasure by President of India, Honorable Pranab Mukherjee – represents the long history and tradition of craft linking both cultures. Kamal is the 9th generation of highly expressed enamel craftsmen. Kamal’s family contributed to the first published compendium of enamel jewelry: the Jaipur Enamel and Dance of the Peacock 2001. His forefathers were included in S.S. Jacob & Hendley’s Jaypore Enamel in 1886.
The President of India recognised Kamal for a traditional Badla(wine bottle), a 7 inch(18 cm), finely detailed with gold, enamel and diamonds. The work of Kamal’s ancestors is in the collections of the National Museum in New Delhi and museums throughout the world. His family were renowned for extensive scale work on swords, plates, bowls, and cups, all finely decorated in rich colour vines and birds traced around their edges, incorporating gold and jewels. Kamals Family works appear in the Royal Collection of Queen Elizabeth of England. These masterpieces were a gift by the Maharaja of Jaipur to then the King of England.
